If you and your partner are over 18 years old, unmarried, and engaged to each other, you may be eligible for a UK Fiancé(e) visa. If the visa application is successful, your partner will be permitted to stay in the UK for up to six months, during which period you must be intending to marry or enter into a civil partnership. It is not permitted to work in the UK during the six-month validity period of the Fiancé(e) visa.
As the ‘sponsoring partner’, you must have settlement, ILR or permanent resident status in the UK. You must also be able to prove that you have sufficient funds and adequate accommodation to support your fiancé during the six-month visa period.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long can I stay in the UK as a fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner?
You can stay in the UK on this visa for six months. You’ll need to prove that you intend to marry or register a civil partnership within this period.
Once you’ve registered your marriage or civil partnership in the UK, you can apply to extend your stay as a Spouse/Civil Partner which grants you leave to remain for two years and six months.
Does the Fiancé(e) or Proposed Civil Partner visa route lead to settlement?
No, this category does not lead to indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or settlement. Once you’ve registered your marriage or civil partnership in the UK, you may apply to extend your stay as a Spouse/Civil Partner which can lead to settlement. To be eligible for ILR, you must have lived continuously in the UK for at least five years before applying. It’s important to note that your six months as a fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner does not count towards the minimum period for ILR.
How much does it cost?
The application cost for a Fiancé(e) or Proposed Civil Partner is £1,538. You can only apply for this visa from outside the UK.
