The Tier 1 Investor visa is the immigration route that offers the quickest path to settlement in the UK, and as such is a popular option for high-net-worth individuals. The minimum investment for this visa is £2 million which grants you eligibility for settlement within five years. If you can invest £10 million, settlement can be applied for after just two years.
Initial applications for this visa are now closed, but you can either apply for an extension before 17 February 2026, or for settlement (ILR) before 17th February 2028. The requirements for investor visa extensions were intensified following the addition of further regulations in 2019, and the extension process is increasingly complex and time-consuming. As your trusted UK immigration law partner, you can rely on us to ease the stress of applying for an extension.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to invest?
When granted your initial Tier 1 Investor visa, you will have 3 months, either from the date of entry to the UK or from the date you were granted entry clearance, to invest a minimum of £2 million in the UK. To be eligible for an extension, you need to have maintained your level of investment for the remaining period of your visa validity.
There are strict rules about how you can invest your funds, so contact us for personalised advice from UK immigration law experts.
When do I need to apply for a visa extension?
In most cases, we recommend applying to extend your visa no more than 1 month before it is due to expire. Though you are able to apply any time before expiry, submitting an application further in advance can lead to shortfall if you later decide to apply for settlement.
You can apply to extend for up to two more years, and will usually receive a decision within eight weeks of applying. You can also apply via the priority service which usually grants a decision within 5 working days.
